Sea Dogs Make Flurry of Moves as Major League Rosters Expand

According to a source close to the team, the Portland Sea Dogs have made several moves today corresponding with the Major League rosters expanding to 40 players for the month of September.

Being promoted from the Double-A Sea Dogs to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox are pitcher Madison Younginer, catcher Luis Martinez and outfielder Aneury Tavarez. To fill their roster spots, the Sea Dogs have recalled outfielder Forrestt Allday, catcher Danny Bethea and pitcher Kyle Kaminska from the Single-A Salem Red Sox.

Madison Younginer posted an 8-4 record with a 3.05 ERA in 39 games for Portland, striking out 55 and holding opponents to a .225 batting average. The 24-year old 2009 draft pick was selected to this years Eastern League All-Star Classic which took place at Hadlock Field.

Luis Martinez has spent time between the Sea Dogs and PawSox this season, slashing .205/.298/.266 with one home run and 27 RBIs in 79 games. Drafted in the 12th round of the 2007 draft by the San Diego Padres, Martinez has spent 32 games in the Major Leagues where he hit .182/.276/.260 with a home run and 10 RBIs for the Padres and Texas Rangers

Anuery Tavarez will be joining Pawtucket after spending this season with the Salem Red Sox and Portland Sea Dogs. In 106 games he has hit .246/.302/.388 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs. The Red Sox signed Tavarez as a non-drafted free agent in October of 2011.

Forrestt Allday joins the Sea Dogs after spending 79 games with Salem, where he hit .249/.383/.301 with two home runs and 20 RBIs. Allday was selected by the Red Sox out of the University of Central Arkansas in the eighth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.

Danny Bethea joins the Sea Dogs after spending parts of this season with the Single-A Greenville Drive and Salem Red Sox. In 44 games this year, Bethea is hitting .238/.287/.298 with nine doubles and 16 RBIs. Bethea was selected in the 34th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft by the Red Sox.

Kyle Kaminska has spent time between Greenville, Salem and a stop in Portland already this season, owning a 1-2 record with a 2.58 ERA over 45 1/3 innings. The 2007 25th round draft choice for the Florida Marlins has twice been selected the MiLB Pitcher of the Week – in May of 2008 for Greensboro and May of 2010 for Jupiter.
